Traffic Alert Temporary Bike Lane Closure on Washington Street between Wells and LaSalle

Chicago, ILLocal News

The City of Chicago has announced a temporary closure of the bike lane on Washington Street between Wells and LaSalle, set to begin on March 24, 2025. This closure is essential for the ongoing ComEd Vault Roof Replacement project at 155 W. Washington and is expected to last between 12 to 16 weeks. During this period, cyclists will be rerouted to share the existing bus lane for this block, allowing them to transition back to the protected bike lane just east of the LaSalle intersection. In addition to regular lane closures, there will be full weekend closures of Washington Street to all vehicular traffic to accommodate crane operations.

These weekend closures are scheduled for March 29–30, April 5–6, April 12–13, and April 19. The city has emphasized that there will be no impact on pedestrian or vehicular traffic during regular work hours, ensuring safety and accessibility. This proactive communication highlights the city’s commitment to keeping residents informed about local infrastructure projects.
