Mayor Brandon Johnson has appointed LaKenya White as the acting interim Chief Administrator for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) in Chicago. White, a Chicago native, brings 25 years of experience in investigative and police accountability roles, making her an exceptional choice for this critical position. Mayor Johnson emphasized her extensive background and ability to respond effectively under pressure, which will aid in ensuring a smooth transition. White expressed her honor in taking this role, highlighting COPA’s reputation as a national leader in police oversight. Her career in police oversight began in 2000, and she has steadily advanced through various positions, including Director of Investigations.

Under her leadership, she aims to enhance the agency's successful initiatives and foster stronger ties between the community and the police. The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability is actively searching for a permanent Chief Administrator to succeed White. This appointment marks a significant step in continuing COPA's mission of advancing accountability within the police department.
