Plan Outlines Vision for Vibrant, Mixed-Use Future Along LaSalle Street

Chicago, ILLocal News

The Chicago Departments of Planning & Development (DPD) and Transportation (CDOT) have introduced "A Vision for LaSalle Street," a community-led initiative to revitalize the corridor between Wacker Drive and Jackson Boulevard. This framework encompasses 11 planning principles designed to support over 1,400 new residential units and $1 billion in commercial rehabilitation efforts in the Loop. Among the principles are promoting vibrant private uses that extend beyond traditional business hours, improving landscaping to soften the street's atmosphere, and prioritizing art and performance spaces. Community input has been integral to shaping this vision, with extensive outreach conducted by DPD Commissioner Ciere Boatright. The project is backed by substantial investments from major companies, including Google and Chase, which further underscores its significance.

Additionally, a CDOT engineering assessment scheduled for completion in 2025 will guide future enhancements. Future upgrades may include character zones to reflect the identity of different blocks along LaSalle Street. Overall, this vision seeks to transform LaSalle into a neighborhood-oriented destination, enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
