Mayor Brandon Johnson Celebrates Grand Opening of The Club MDW, The First Passenger Lounge at Midway International Airport

Mayor Brandon Johnson officially opened The Club MDW on September 25, 2024, making it the first passenger lounge at Midway International Airport in its 96-year history. This modern lounge, located near Gate B1, is designed to provide travelers with a comfortable space featuring complimentary refreshments, diverse seating options, and workspaces with charging stations. The Club MDW is accessible to all travelers, regardless of airline or class, by purchasing a day pass for $50 or through various lounge membership programs. The opening of this lounge is part of the broader $400 million Midway Modernization Program, which aims to enhance the airport's facilities significantly. Mayor Johnson highlighted Midway's role as a vital gateway for Chicago and reiterated the city's commitment to delivering a world-class travel experience.

CDA Commissioner Jamie L. Rhee also expressed excitement about the new lounge and its potential to serve the growing number of travelers. The construction of The Club MDW was completed this month at a cost of approximately $5 million and is expected to create around 50 full-time jobs. This development showcases the ongoing transformation of Chicago’s original hometown airport.
