TIF Funding Would Support Upgrades at Three North Lawndale Schools

Mayor Brandon Johnson has introduced a proposal to the City Council that would allocate $10 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to upgrade facilities at three public schools in North Lawndale. The funding will be divided among James Weldon Johnson STEAM Elementary School, Thomas Chalmers STEAM Elementary School, and Collins Academy STEAM High School. Each institution will receive crucial financial support to address critical facility needs and enhance educational spaces. Specifically, James Weldon Johnson STEAM Elementary and Thomas Chalmers STEAM Elementary will each receive $3. 75 million for renovations, while Collins Academy STEAM High School will receive $2.
