In a significant boost to Chicago's arts community, Mayor Brandon Johnson announced that over $4 million in grants will be distributed to 185 nonprofit arts organizations as part of the city’s 2024 CityArts Program. This longstanding initiative aims to provide general operating support to diverse arts organizations across various disciplines, including service organizations, educational groups, and cultural centers. Grant amounts are structured based on each organization's average annual revenue, ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. Mayor Johnson highlighted the critical role of the arts in the city's identity and economic vitality, stating, "Chicago’s diverse arts and culture community is one of the reasons that we’re the greatest freakin’ city in the world. " DCASE Commissioner Clinée Hedspeth noted that the annual grant program exemplifies DCASE’s commitment to supporting local artistry and innovation.

This year, 48% of the awarded grants went to organizations on the South and West sides, reflecting a concerted effort toward equitable funding distribution. Notable grantees include the Kehrein Center for the Arts and the Prison + Neighborhood Arts/Education Project, among others. The funding is expected to be transformative for many organizations, enabling them to expand their outreach and impact within their communities.
