Land Sale, TIF Funding Approved for Kells Park Fieldhouse

In a significant move to enhance community facilities, the Chicago City Council has sanctioned the construction of a new fieldhouse in Kells Park, facilitated by a land transfer and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) assistance. The project will involve three city parcels totaling . 54 acres located at 714-26 N. Kedzie Ave. in Humboldt Park, which will be sold to the Chicago Park District for a nominal fee of $1 per parcel.

In addition, the City Council has approved up to $16. 4 million in TIF funding to cover eligible construction costs from the Chicago/Central Park TIF district. A former fire station on one of the parcels will be demolished to pave the way for the new fieldhouse. The facility is expected to include a gym, meeting rooms, and restrooms, addressing the community's recreational needs. The project represents an investment in the local infrastructure and is designed to promote the comprehensive growth and sustainability of the area.

Completion of this much-anticipated fieldhouse is expected by the end of 2026, marking a significant milestone for the Humboldt Park neighborhood. The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to improve public amenities and support community development in Chicago.
