As Mexican Independence Day approaches, the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) is encouraging residents to enjoy a weekend filled with celebrations and sporting events safely. The OEMC has issued a reminder for citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities by calling 9-1-1. Events scheduled for the weekend include festivities for Mexican Independence Day, games by the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Fire, and Chicago Sky, as well as the return of the Chicago Cubs to Wrigley Field. Additionally, community events such as the Race to Wrigley 5K, the Out of Darkness Walk, and the Guatemalan Independence Day Parade will be held. The city is taking proactive measures to ensure safety, with the Emergency Operations Center activated to monitor activities and coordinate emergency responses.

The Chicago Police Department will also be present to enforce traffic regulations and ensure safe passage for emergency vehicles. Residents are encouraged to be respectful of their surroundings and considerate of first responders during the celebrations. The OEMC urges everyone to celebrate responsibly while enjoying the cultural significance of the events.
