Mayor Brandon Johnson Opens Bids For 112 New Concessions at O’Hare International Airport

Chicago, ILLocal News

In a significant move to boost local businesses and enhance traveler experiences, Mayor Brandon Johnson has opened bids for 112 new concessions at O'Hare International Airport. This initiative, described as one of the largest concession bid opportunities in U. S. airport history, is part of ongoing modernization efforts at O'Hare. The Chicago Department of Aviation will oversee the request for proposals (RFP), which includes 75 food and beverage locations, 34 retail spaces, and three duty-free areas, collectively totaling over 146,000 square feet.

Mayor Johnson highlighted the economic potential of this development, stating that it would provide opportunities for Chicagoans and celebrate the city's diverse culture. The initiative includes a commitment to small businesses, reserving 10% of the concession space exclusively for them, and offering incentives to encourage diverse participation in the bidding process. A key aspect of the initiative is the establishment of an incubator program to support first-time businesses within the airport environment. Interested applicants can engage in a pre-proposal meeting and networking event to explore potential partnerships. The city aims for a 32% participation rate from Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (ACDBE) in this competitive process.
