My Block, My Hood, My City Prepares To Decorate MLK Drive For Holidays And Needs Your Help
My Block, My Hood, My City is rallying community members to support its Be a Part of The Light campaign, which aims to decorate 500 homes along Martin Luther King Drive on December 6. The event will take place from noon to 5 p. m. , with decoration efforts from noon to 3 p. m.
, followed by a tree-lighting ceremony from 3:30 p. m. to 5 p. m. Volunteers can sign up to help, and donations are welcomed through an Amazon wishlist that includes essential holiday decorations.
This initiative, now in its eighth year, focuses on creating spaces for neighbors to connect, aiming to reduce isolation and trauma in the community. The nonprofit also implements various programs across the South and West sides of Chicago, empowering youth and fostering community engagement. Abbey Hambright, a board vice president, emphasized the importance of community involvement in these efforts. The campaign not only enhances the festive spirit but also strengthens local ties.
