Brown Line Trains Will Again Bypass Western Stop This Weekend Due To Construction

Chicago, ILLocal News

Service disruptions on the Brown Line will affect the Western stop this weekend due to ongoing construction in Lincoln Square. From 10 p. m. Friday until 4 a. m.

Monday, Kimball-bound trains will bypass this stop, necessitating a transfer at Damen for continued travel. Riders should also note that the Loop-bound and Kimball-bound elevators at the Western stop will be temporarily out of service, with the Loop-bound elevator likely remaining down until year-end. These renovations are part of the 2019 Lincoln Square Master Plan, which seeks to improve infrastructure and enhance the area's aesthetic appeal. The project includes upgrades for pedestrians and cyclists, a new public plaza, and an improved CTA infrastructure. Completion of a new public parking lot and major intersection is expected by Thanksgiving, coinciding with increased holiday shopping activity.

Local officials emphasize that these improvements are designed to support local businesses during the busy shopping season. The upgrades will continue into the spring, further transforming the Lincoln Square area.
