Paul, a former state investigative editor, will lead the Watch team, focusing on community-driven investigations after Curtis Lawrence's retirement. She previously won the Lisagor Award for Best Community Reporting in 2024 for her work on neighborhood issues. Schmidt joins as a partnerships associate, leveraging her experience from the Democracy Fund to develop philanthropic initiatives and corporate sponsorships. Durchin, previously an intern, steps into a full-time role as an assistant account executive, emphasizing the importance of community storytelling.

Block Club’s investigative efforts are supported by the McCormick and Driehaus Foundations, reflecting a commitment to impactful reporting. The new hires aim to enhance local journalism in Chicago, addressing community issues and holding power accountable. Their collective experience positions Block Club to strengthen connections and engagement within neighborhoods.
