5-Story Apartment Building In Andersonville OK'd By City Council

Chicago, ILLocal News

The Chicago City Council approved a zoning change for a new five-story apartment building in Andersonville, which will replace a single-family home and vacant lot at 5054 N. Ashland Ave. Mackinaw Development LLC plans to construct 26 residential units, including six affordable housing units and 14 parking spaces. Ald. Andre Vasquez, who supported the project, noted that community feedback was largely positive, emphasizing the benefits of increased density and the building's strategic location on a major thoroughfare.

The developer initially proposed a six-story building with 32 apartments, showcasing a willingness to adapt to community concerns. This approval represents a concerted effort to address housing shortages and improve access to affordable living spaces in the city. Additionally, the project aims to enhance the neighborhood's vibrancy by increasing population density. Such developments are crucial as Chicago faces ongoing challenges related to housing affordability and availability. The project is expected to contribute positively to the Andersonville community.
