Artist Anish Kapoor 'Horrified' By Border Patrol Agents Posing With The Bean

Chicago, ILLocal News

Anish Kapoor may pursue legal action against U. S. Border Patrol agents who posed in front of his Cloud Gate sculpture, known as the Bean, in Millennium Park. The artist expressed horror over what he described as a self-congratulatory photo opportunity by the agents, likening their behavior to that of Nazi troops. Kapoor emphasized that Cloud Gate serves as a gathering place for Chicagoans and visitors alike, having welcomed millions since its unveiling.

He voiced support for Mayor Brandon Johnson's condemnation of the agents' actions, which included shouting "Little Village" to intimidate residents in a nearby neighborhood. Friends of the Parks also criticized the incident, highlighting that Chicago's parks should remain safe spaces for the community. The Border Patrol has faced scrutiny for its recent operations in Chicago, with around 200 agents conducting activities in the area. Most agents are expected to leave the city soon, as Border Patrol chief Gregory Bovino has already departed. Kapoor's team has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the potential legal action.
