The Ultimate Chicago Thanksgiving Pie Guide
The Chopping Block in Lincoln Square continues to offer its iconic apple pie for Thanksgiving, available for pre-order at $80, which includes the cast-iron skillet. Andrea Miller, the marketing manager, emphasized the pie's significance as the first recipe taught at the school when it opened in 1997. The production process has evolved into a well-oiled machine, with the team producing about 50 pies each Thanksgiving. Each pie contains eight Granny Smith apples, which are selected for their ability to hold shape and provide a tart flavor. The pies weigh close to 10 pounds and can be transported easily, as they do not require refrigeration.
Customers receive instructions for serving, and Miller suggests pairing the pie with hand-whipped cream or ice cream. The Chopping Block's mission to inspire home cooking continues as customers are left with a valuable cast-iron skillet after enjoying their pie. Early ordering is recommended due to the high demand during the holiday season.
