All Residents To Leave As Court Takes Control Of South Shore Building Raided By Feds

Chicago, ILLocal News

A Cook County Circuit judge ordered the evacuation of a dangerous South Shore apartment building, appointing a receiver to manage the property after ongoing safety issues persisted. Judge Debra Seaton highlighted severe hazards such as exposed electrical wiring and broken plumbing, calling the building a potential fire trap. The ruling impacts about 37 tenants and 10 squatters residing in the 130-unit building, which has been in decline for nearly two years. Property owner Trinity Flood did not contest the order, and the court appointed Jared Friedman as the receiver. Seaton allocated an initial $20,000 for repairs and security until the building is fully vacated.

Residents expressed concerns about unsanitary conditions, lack of heat, and inadequate security following the federal raid that led to numerous arrests. Flood previously stated he spent $100,000 on repairs but encountered unexpected issues. Seaton's ruling underscores the urgent need for safe living conditions in the community.
