Logan Square Skate Park Supporters Must Start From Scratch After State Nixes Overhaul Plans

Chicago, ILLocal News

Plans to renovate the Logan Square skate park are starting anew after state guidelines halted progress on permanent structures. The Park District is now gathering community input to align the project with state requirements, which mandate that any modifications be modular and removable. Advocates have invested significant effort and funding, totaling nearly $800,000, in hopes of creating a world-class facility. They contest the state's limitations, arguing that similar skate parks across the country have thrived under highways. Michael Lang from the Park District acknowledged the challenges but emphasized the need for a compromise.

Longtime advocate Mark Heller criticized the process as poorly managed and lacking in transparency. The community is eager for a design that reflects their vision while adhering to safety regulations. Local skaters worry that the resulting park will not meet their needs if it is built with temporary solutions.
