Homeland Security Boss Kristi Noem To Give Update On Chicago ICE Operation From Indiana

Chicago, ILLocal News

U. S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem will provide an update on Operation Midway Blitz in Gary, Indiana, on Thursday at 11 a. m. , targeting undocumented individuals in Illinois.

This announcement comes after a federal appeals court blocked a requirement for Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino to report daily to U. S. District Judge Sara Ellis. The Department of Homeland Security has requested that reporters arrive two hours early, with the location revealed only upon RSVP. The operation, which began last month, has resulted in nearly 3,000 arrests amid rising tensions between federal agents and protesters.

Recently released body-camera footage shows agents deploying tear gas during clashes with protesters in Chicago. Governor JB Pritzker has urged Noem to suspend operations during Halloween, citing the potential endangerment of children and families. Pritzker's letter highlights the trauma inflicted on community members and calls for a peaceful Halloween celebration. The ongoing conflict raises concerns about community safety and the impact of federal immigration enforcement in local neighborhoods.
