Laugh Factory Manager Detained By Border Patrol, Charged With Assaulting Federal Officer

Chicago, ILLocal News

Nathan Griffin, manager of the Laugh Factory comedy club, faces federal charges for allegedly assaulting a Border Patrol officer during his detention in Lakeview. The confrontation occurred shortly after agents arrested another man, leading to a chaotic scene described by witnesses. Griffin reportedly attempted to close the door of a Border Patrol vehicle, injuring the officer in the process. His family has launched a GoFundMe campaign for legal fees, raising over $23,000 to date. This incident is part of a concerning trend, with Griffin being one of at least 18 individuals federally charged with assaulting immigration officers in the past month.

Five similar cases were dismissed by prosecutors, raising questions about the Department of Homeland Security’s credibility. U. S. District Judge April Perry has highlighted these dismissals in discussions about deploying the National Guard in Illinois. The Laugh Factory has remained silent regarding the incident involving their manager.
