Apartments And Townhomes Pitched For Vacant Avondale Lot

Chicago, ILLocal News

A significant housing development proposal has emerged for a vacant 2. 09-acre lot in Avondale, seeking to transform it into a residential area featuring 24 townhomes and two five-story apartment buildings with a total of 152 units. Local developer Stocking Urban, in partnership with Macon Construction, aims to address the local housing shortage through this project, which requires a zoning change from manufacturing to residential use. The proposal includes 25 below-market-rate units, complying with the city’s Affordable Requirements Ordinance for median income. Concerns about traffic flow were raised by community members during a recent public meeting led by Alderman Anthony Quezada.

The developers are currently revising their plans based on feedback received. Quezada's office will accept online comments until October 31 before deciding on support for the project. Nick Stocking, founder of Stocking Urban, emphasized the need for more housing in the city, particularly family-sized affordable units. This development could potentially revitalize a blighted area that has remained vacant since 2016.
