Eyewitnesses reported that federal agents deployed tear gas and pepper spray, injuring several protesters. Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez condemned the actions, noting that one detained student was left “bloodied” after the confrontation. The Chicago Police Department arrived in response to 911 calls but emphasized their role was limited to crowd control and ensuring public safety. Alderman Michael Rodriguez announced plans to turn his office into an immigration "triage" center to assist families of those detained.

He expressed concern that ICE operations would continue in the neighborhood, stating, “We do believe ICE will be back. ” Community leaders are alarmed by the federal agents' presence, arguing it instills fear in local immigrant families.
