West Side Pastor Named To Time Magazine's List Of 100 Rising Stars
Pastor Marshall Hatch Jr. of New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church has been named to Time Magazine’s prestigious Time100 Next list for his advocacy in social justice. As the executive director of the MAAFA Redemption Project, he focuses on improving the lives of Black and Brown youth through educational and community initiatives. The project recently began construction on an $8 million Center for Arts and Activism, which will serve as a new hub for various programs. Rev.
Al Sharpton highlighted Hatch's community work, stressing the need for local leaders in the face of increasing federal law enforcement activity. Hatch emphasizes the importance of addressing root causes of public safety issues rather than relying on political tactics. He describes the MAAFA Redemption Project as a sustainable solution to these challenges. Hatch's commitment to community empowerment is reflected in his belief that “I am, because we are. ” The project has already seen success, with its eighth cohort of fellows graduating this May.
