Bowmanville Metal Factory Hosts 1st Photo Exhibition Alongside The New Theatre Projects 'Blackbird'

Chicago, ILLocal News

The New Theatre Project is staging "Blackbird," a 2005 drama by Scottish playwright David Harrower, at Servi-Sure, a Bowmanville factory. The play tells the story of Una, who confronts her abuser, Ray, after 15 years, and runs from October 24 to November 16 with tickets at $45. Alongside the play, photographer George Hudson showcases his exhibition "Ghosts," which opens on October 27 and runs through the weekend. Hudson's work, which features dreamlike images painted directly onto film negatives, reflects themes of memory and the lingering presence of past relationships. The exhibition is free to attend and includes a Q&A session on October 28 with Hudson and director Spencer Huffman.

This collaboration marks a continuation of the factory's support for the arts, facilitated by owner Chris Angus, who values artistic expression. With the setting of the breakroom matching the play's industrial theme, both the play and the exhibition explore how the past influences the present. The partnership highlights the importance of community spaces in fostering local art and theater.
