'L' Trains Will Bypass Western Brown Line Stop This Weekend Due To Construction

The Brown Line will bypass the Western station in Lincoln Square this weekend due to construction activities. The service interruption will take place from 10:30 p. m. Friday to 2:30 a. m.

Monday, with a free bus shuttle available between the Western and Damen stations. Commuters are encouraged to use the nearby Rockwell stop during this time. Construction crews have been working on infrastructure improvements for over two years, following the 2019 Lincoln Square Master Plan. These renovations aim to create pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly upgrades, along with a new public plaza. Traffic will be affected, including a right-turn-only restriction for Leland traffic while a pedestrian refuge island is built.

The construction also uncovered remnants of the historical Lincoln Avenue streetcar system, highlighting the area's past. The current phase of construction is expected to continue through 2025, according to CTA officials.
