In Chicago-Set Coming-Of-Age Dramedy 'Adult Children,' No One Has It Figured Out
"Adult Children," directed by Rich Newey, follows 17-year-old Morgan as she grapples with her identity while preparing for college applications. With her parents vacationing in Europe, Morgan is left to manage her older brother, Josh, as he battles addiction. The film features her older sisters, Lisa and Dahlia, who join the effort, resulting in a chaotic examination of family dynamics and the pressures of growing up. Newey aims to convey that feeling lost is a universal experience, a theme echoed through Morgan's journey. The film draws inspiration from John Hughes' classic Chicago-based narratives, despite being filmed in Dixon, Illinois.
Newey and screenwriter Annika Marks collaborated on the project, with the story influenced by Marks' experiences as the oldest of four siblings. The film is part of the Chicago International Film Festival's City & State program, emphasizing local storytelling. Tickets for the screening are available for purchase at AMC NEWCITY 14.
