The Promontory, Beloved Hyde Park Music Venue, Closing At End Of Year

Chicago, ILLocal News

The Promontory, a cherished Hyde Park venue, will close after its New Year’s Eve party on December 31, ending an 11-year run that included concerts, parties, and community gatherings. Venue officials shared the news on Instagram, expressing appreciation for the support received from the community. Originally launched with a restaurant and concert hall, the Promontory has functioned solely as a music venue since its kitchen closed in 2020 due to pandemic-related challenges. Owner Bruce Finkelman emphasized the venue's diverse musical lineup, showcasing local and national talent across various genres. The University of Chicago owns the building and confirmed that the closure will not impact Sanders BBQ Prime's plans to occupy the restaurant space in early 2026.

The venue previously hosted numerous themed parties and community meetings, becoming a neighborhood hub. As the community reflects on the venue's impact, officials aim to find a new tenant that will contribute positively to the area. The Promontory's closure marks the end of a significant cultural chapter in Hyde Park.
