Pilsen's Homegrown Studio Retail Shop Offers A Little Of Everything From Local Makers
Homegrown Studio opened on September 13 on Pilsen's 18th Street, featuring products from 30 local artisans. Co-owners Christina Stelyn and Nikole Bennett created a retail model where makers sell directly to customers, eliminating the traditional middleman. Vendors rent space to showcase their unique items, including jewelry, art prints, and vintage clothing. The studio also provides an event hall for workshops, with upcoming sessions on sugar skull crafting and sourdough bread making. Local artist Catherine Cox emphasized the value of a permanent space for selling handmade goods.
The collective fosters community connections and supports local entrepreneurship. Bennett, who also runs the Ramova Community Market, aims to enhance visibility for local makers. Homegrown Studio represents a growing trend of collaborative retail spaces promoting local culture and creativity.
