Gotham Gaming Wants To Break Down Barriers In Chicago's Gaming Scene

Chicago, ILLocal News

Gotham Gaming, launched by Clementina Salucci and Jonny Saldana, strives to create an inclusive gaming space in Chicago. The nonprofit aims to eliminate barriers for marginalized communities and promote advocacy through gaming. Its inaugural launch party will take place on October 10, 2025, at Kinowerks, with free entry and suggested donations. Salucci emphasizes the importance of fostering community intimacy in gaming, contrasting it with the competitive nature of traditional eSports leagues. The organization plans to host monthly social events, including a flagship Gamer Gathering series, and has already collaborated with Twitch Community MeetUps to provide gaming technology.

Gotham Gaming will also support five key projects, such as STEM education initiatives and mutual aid programs. Saldana notes the gaming industry's historical dominance by white straight men and emphasizes the need for diverse storytelling and spaces. Their funding strategy includes corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and grant applications to support their mission.
