Logan Squares Community Land Trust Building 12 Affordable Condos For NW Side Families

Chicago, ILLocal News

The Here to Stay Community Land Trust has begun construction on two condo projects aimed at providing affordable housing for families on the Northwest Side. The first project, at 2638 W. Cortland St. , will create six condos on land donated by local resident Tom Wilkinson, who aims to foster affordable living in the community. Additionally, six more condos will be available at 1508 N.

Harding Ave. in Humboldt Park, with plans for four more units in the future. This initiative is part of the land trust's broader goal to help lower- to medium-income families build generational wealth in gentrifying neighborhoods. The trust, founded in 2019, has already facilitated the sale of 22 homes and multi-unit buildings. The Cortland project received $1 million in federal funding from Rep.

Delia Ramirez, underscoring its significance amid rising housing prices. The expected sales price for the condos ranges from $135,000 to $165,000, significantly lower than the market rate. This effort has garnered praise from local leaders and community members for its commitment to ensuring residents can remain in their neighborhoods.
