More Apartments Coming To Avondale After City Council Approval

Chicago, ILLocal News

Chicago City Council approved two new residential developments in Avondale and Irving Park, adding a total of 41 apartments to the area. The first project involves constructing a five-story building with 32 apartments at 4100 W. Belmont Ave. , while the second project will see a four-story structure with nine units at 3122 W. Belmont Ave.

Developer Wes Khan plans to demolish his current office to facilitate the five-story complex, which will feature six below-market apartments and 2,000 square feet of retail space. The projects respond to rising housing demand as residents face displacement from Logan Square and surrounding neighborhoods. Khan noted that his company has experienced strong interest in two-bedroom apartments suitable for families and young professionals. Construction for the five-story building is set to begin after demolition in early 2025 and will take approximately six months to complete. The area has faced issues with speeding and pedestrian safety, and Khan hopes the city will address these concerns as new housing is developed.

A mixed-use proposal nearby has been deferred, highlighting ongoing challenges in local development.
