56-Story Residential Tower Pitched For Mag Mile

Chicago, ILLocal News

AMLI Residential has unveiled plans for a 56-story apartment tower at 669 N. Michigan Ave. , aimed at adding 498 residential units to the Magnificent Mile. The design includes 337 efficiency units and 161 standard apartments, with 10 percent of the units—50 in total—set aside as affordable housing. The development also proposes retail space on the first two floors, parking across several levels, and amenity spaces on selected floors.

Ald. Brendan Reilly highlighted that the project would help increase foot traffic in an area facing post-pandemic vacancy challenges. A traffic study predicts only minor increases in wait times at local intersections if the proposal is approved. The project requires approval from the Chicago Plan Commission and City Council before construction can begin. Reilly emphasized that the development represents ongoing private investment in the area, supporting efforts to maintain Michigan Avenue's appeal.

The proposed tower stands to further invigorate a key commercial corridor in Chicago.
