Jailene Cepeda, a 26-year-old mother of two, was fatally shot over the weekend in Humboldt Park, igniting outrage and sorrow within the community. Her family has launched a fundraiser to cover funeral costs, successfully raising over $7,000 of their $9,000 goal in just five days. Cepeda was a resident of Arlington Heights, but she grew up in Humboldt Park, where she attended Funston Elementary and Pedro Albizu Campos High School. Family members described her as a full Christian who led her life with laughter, love, and faith. Alderman Jessie Fuentes, who knew Cepeda as a former student, lamented the tragedy and urged community members to share any information related to the shooting.

The police continue to investigate, and no arrests have been made at this time. The loss has left a significant impact on the local community, emphasizing the ongoing issue of gun violence. Community members are rallying to support Cepeda's family during this difficult time.
