South Side Community Leaders Host Coffee Giveaway After Thieves Hit Bronzevilles Sip Savor
Bronzeville's Sip & Savor will offer free coffee this Saturday after suffering two break-ins, with community leaders stepping up to support the cafe. Owner Trez Pugh III reported $2,000 in damages from the theft of premium liquor and baked goods, prompting local entrepreneurs and aldermen to act. Early Walker, George Daniels, and Aldermen Pat Dowell and Stephanie Coleman are each sponsoring 100 coffees to help the cafe recover. Walker envisions Sip & Savor becoming a pivotal community establishment, similar to a Black-owned Starbucks. Coleman praised Pugh's dedication to staying in the community and expressed hope for an Englewood location.
Pugh has received strong backing from neighbors, contributing to his resilience as he operates seven locations across the city. The event aims to inspire attendees to support local businesses further. A recent survey indicated that many small business owners are concerned about rising costs and inflation, highlighting the importance of community support.
