From Steering A Bus To Splitting Iron, CTA Workers Show Off Skills At Annual Jamboree
The CTA's annual Jamboree in Skokie attracted hundreds of employees eager to demonstrate their skills in various competitions. Events included navigating buses and cleaning graffiti, with winners receiving trophies, cash prizes, and extra paid time off. CTA project coordinator Cee James highlighted the significance of the event, allowing families to witness the hard work of their loved ones in operations. Janitorial staff also participated in timed challenges, showcasing their expertise in cleaning under simulated conditions. Rail station manager Jason Porter ensured fairness by creating identical setups for each competition.
The event has been a tradition since the 1980s, emphasizing teamwork and skill development among employees. Veteran competitors like Miguel Davila have used the Jamboree to refine their techniques and mentor younger staff. This celebration of skills fosters a sense of community within the CTA.
