Lakeviews 1st Dog Park To Break Ground In Spring

Chicago, ILLocal News

Lakeview's first dedicated dog park is on track to start construction in spring 2026, marking a significant milestone for the community after nearly a decade of organizing. A non-binding referendum revealed that over 80% of local voters supported the project, highlighting its importance to residents. At 25,000 square feet, the park will be the second-largest in Chicago, providing a much-needed space for dog owners. Financial backing from local officials, including Ald. Bennett Lawson, has helped secure funding for the $950,000 project.

The park's design incorporates community feedback and includes features like artificial turf, splash pads, and shaded areas. Additionally, the fundraising efforts have raised over $800,000, with plans for more corporate sponsorships. This initiative is not just about dogs; it aims to create a gathering space for residents. The park's construction will enhance community ties and provide a safe environment for both pets and people.
