Urban Male Network Brings Music Studio, Basketball Court And More To Englewood Center

Chicago, ILLocal News

The Urban Male Network Empowerment Center opened in Englewood, designed to empower young men of color through arts, mentorship, and mental health support. This facility includes a podcast studio, gaming area, and outdoor basketball court, catering to the interests of local youth. The renovation of a long-vacant building cost $180,000, with significant funding from the Foot Locker Foundation. CEO Marlon Haywood highlighted his personal connection to the community, having grown up in Englewood, and cited his grandmother's legacy as inspiration for the project. The center aims to provide safe spaces for youth to thrive amidst challenging environments.

Haywood's vision aligns with the Urban Male Network's mission to uplift urban youth, marking a significant local investment. The Empowerment Center is the organization's second project, following the establishment of the Annie Mae Patterson Community Court, which also repurposed underutilized land. Both initiatives reflect a commitment to community revitalization and support for local families.
