Donors To Sponsor 200 Free Meals At Chatham Fatburger After Owner Shares Video Of Attacks

Chicago, ILLocal News

Early Walker and Kevin Corcoran will sponsor free meals for the first 200 customers at Fatburger in Chatham, Chicago, in response to violent incidents at the restaurant. Owner Jackie Jackson shared surveillance footage of the attacks to hold the young assailants accountable, having initially withheld it due to fear of retaliation. The restaurant, which opened in November, faced two assaults shortly after its launch, including one where an employee was assaulted behind the register. The incidents, coupled with road closures from nearby construction, severely impacted business, leading to significant layoffs. Aaron Burns, an employee who was injured in the December attack, will be honored during a ceremony that will also serve as a belated grand opening.

Jackson emphasized her commitment to the community, stating, "Not all children are bad," and recognizing the positive contributions of her young employees. She received a $1 million grant for renovations, and despite setbacks, Jackson installed security measures to enhance safety. The community's support reflects a collective effort to counteract violence and foster a secure environment for local businesses.
