Lincoln Square Fundraiser Pots To The People To Benefit ACLU Saturday

Chicago, ILLocal News

The “Seconds for the First Amendment” fundraiser will occur Saturday in Lincoln Square, aiming to support the ACLU amidst heightened federal immigration activity in Chicago. Local ceramic artists Lesley Bevan and Susan McBride organized the event, encouraging artists to donate slightly imperfect pieces for sale. Over 130 works from nearly 50 contributors have been collected since July, with all proceeds directed to civil rights initiatives. Bevan noted that the fundraiser represents a form of mutual aid through art, allowing community members to engage in civic action. Each piece sold will feature a card from the maker, prompting buyers to reflect on their personal commitment to social justice.

This initiative echoes previous grassroots movements, like the Nasty Women Art Exhibition, and encourages artists nationwide to replicate the model. Bevan expressed the importance of finding personal empowerment through creative means during challenging times. The event seeks to inspire collective action and resilience within the community.
