South Side Theater Fans Save Beverly Arts Center From Canceling Upcoming Shows

Chicago, ILLocal News

The Beverly Arts Center in Morgan Park has secured ticket sales for its production of Arthur Miller's "The Crucible," which was at risk of cancellation due to slow sales. After a community effort, ticket sales increased significantly, ensuring all performances from September 18-21 will occur as planned. Executive Director Carla Carter stated that the center has stable funding and aims to keep ticket prices low, with discounts for students and members to promote accessibility. The cast, led by Patrick Allen as John Proctor, has dedicated considerable time to rehearsals, reflecting the community's commitment to the arts. Carter highlighted the importance of the play's themes, which resonate with current social issues, particularly regarding women's rights.

The arts center's decision not to raise ticket prices came from community feedback, as many families face financial constraints. Additionally, anonymous donors have stepped in to help students who cannot afford tickets, showcasing strong community support. This production serves not only as entertainment but also as a vital cultural commentary.
