TIF Proposed for East Garfield Park Construction Training Center

Chicago, ILLocal News

Mayor Brandon Johnson has unveiled a proposal to provide $3. 71 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to Revolution Workshop, a prominent workforce development organization in East Garfield Park. The funding will facilitate the rehabilitation of their headquarters at 3410 W. Lake St. , covering a substantial area of 14,700 square feet.

Planned improvements include the creation of modern learning spaces, the expansion of facilities dedicated to social enterprises, and the enhancement of lobby areas as well as building systems. This initiative aligns with the city’s broader strategy to boost economic development in historically underserved neighborhoods. By investing in this training center, the city aims to foster job creation and skill development, addressing critical workforce needs in the area. Mayor Johnson's proposal was introduced to the City Council as part of ongoing efforts to empower local businesses and enhance community resources. Should this proposal be approved, it is expected to have a significant and lasting impact on the local job market and the overall economy of East Garfield Park.

The project represents a commitment to improving workforce training opportunities and supporting the community's development.
