South Shore residents reported at least 11 vehicles with shattered windows over the weekend, with no items stolen from any of the cars, according to police. Authorities received seven reports, including incidents in the 2100 block of East 68th Street and the 6700 block of Merrill Avenue. One resident, initially worried about being targeted, realized many neighbors experienced similar damage, indicating a widespread issue. Frank Mistretta Jr. , owner of a local auto glass shop, confirmed customers have complained about multiple window damages along their blocks.
Police have yet to make any arrests or share suspect information as of Monday, raising concerns among residents. They noted the alarming frequency of the incidents, prompting calls for increased police attention. Block Club Chicago reported at least 21 patches of shattered glass observed in the vicinity. The community remains on edge as they seek answers and solutions to the vandalism.
