Belmont Cragin Family Raising Money For Moms Recovery After Driver Hit Her

Chicago, ILLocal News

Teresa Carteno, 62, suffered multiple severe injuries after being struck by a driver in Belmont Cragin while crossing the street on August 28. The driver swerved to avoid traffic, resulting in Carteno breaking her neck, spine, pelvis, and several other bones. Her family has set up a fundraiser to assist with her medical expenses, raising around $1,500 of their $22,000 goal. The driver, 42, has been charged with operating an uninsured vehicle and failing to yield to a pedestrian. As Carteno's Medicaid won't cover all medical and legal bills, the family's financial situation has become strained, leading them to hire a personal injury lawyer.

Currently, Carteno is receiving intensive care at the University of Chicago Medicine Center for Care and Discovery while on a ventilator. Her family hopes community support will help them navigate the financial burden of her recovery. Lisette Carteno expressed gratitude for the donations and support, highlighting the compassion of those who care about her mother's situation.
