Vase And Vessel, Andersonville Plant And Pottery Store, Closing After 3 Years

Chicago, ILLocal News

Vase and Vessel, a plant and pottery store in Andersonville, will close its doors on September 21 after three years of operation. Owners Adam Kruse and Bill Dlugokienski cited rising tariffs and inventory costs as significant challenges, combined with a decrease in consumer spending due to economic uncertainty. The store, which opened in 2022 after expanding from the Andersonville Galleria, offered a variety of home goods, including ceramics, candles, and soaps. A storewide sale will take place until the final day, with discounts increasing up to 30 percent based on the number of items purchased. Kruse and Dlugokienski decided not to renew their lease after assessing the “rocky” future for small businesses.

The closure signifies broader challenges faced by local retailers in maintaining profitability amid rising costs. Kruse and Dlugokienski expressed concern over the sustainability of their business model given current economic conditions. The situation underscores the impact of economic trends on small businesses in urban areas.
