Third City Art Studio Opening In Austin, 1st In Project To Transform North Avenue Into Arts District
Third City Studio and Third City Cafe are set to open in Austin, marking the beginning of the North Austin Arts District project. The studio will debut on October 17, highlighting local and West Side artists while offering classes and after-school programs. Owner Jon Womack noted the community's need for a welcoming space for social interactions. The cafe, anticipated to open in early 2026, will feature coffee, tea, and prepared foods, along with outdoor seating. The initiative seeks to revitalize a mixed-use complex on North Avenue, integrating arts spaces, new retail, and affordable housing.
The total project cost for the gallery is $365,000, supported by a $250,000 Community Development Grant. The cafe's budget is $500,000 with additional funding from the Neighborhood Opportunity Fund and TIF Purchase Rehab Grant. As part of its mission, Third City Studio will also launch its inaugural show, inviting submissions from local artists through September 15.
