Out There Run Club Is Building A Community Of LGBTQ Runners And Walkers In Chicago
Out There, a new running club in Chicago, focuses on supporting LGBTQ+ and transgender athletes through weekly runs and walks. The group gathers every Wednesday at Park and Field, regularly attracting 60-70 participants who appreciate the inclusive environment. Founder Vanessa Righeimer was inspired by similar groups and recognized a need for a lesbian-led and trans-led community in Chicago. Ace Porter, a transgender leader, highlights the club's commitment to uplifting gender-nonconforming individuals. Members enjoy forming connections and friendships, often celebrating each other's achievements.
The club's welcoming vibe encourages participation from all fitness levels and paces. Out There recently organized its first hike and aims to host more events across different city areas. This expansion will help ensure that individuals from various neighborhoods can access a supportive athletic community.
