Fall-Like Weather Arrives In Chicago After Scorching Summer

Chicago, ILLocal News

Chicago will experience a notable change in weather this week, with temperatures expected to reach only the low-to-mid 70s, marking a significant drop from typical late August conditions. Highs of 72 degrees on Monday and Tuesday are approximately 10 degrees below the normal for this time of year, with overnight lows possibly dropping to 46 degrees. Such temperatures are nearly 20 degrees cooler than the average for August 25 and 26. The National Weather Service notes that these conditions are more aligned with late September rather than late summer. This cooler weather follows a summer that has been described as Chicago's fifth-warmest in 154 years, as reported by WGN meteorologist Bill Snyder.

By Thursday, temperatures are projected to rise slightly to a high of 78 degrees, still below the normal of 81 degrees. Additionally, the city will remain dry this week, providing relief after weeks of summer storms that resulted in flooding, particularly in the Southwest Side. This weather change allows residents to enjoy an early return to "sweater weather.
