Channyn Lynne Parker Named CEO Of Equality Illinois, Will Depart Brave Space Alliance

Channyn Lynne Parker has been appointed as the next CEO of Equality Illinois, making her the first Black transgender woman to hold this position in the organization’s 34-year history. Currently leading Brave Space Alliance, Parker expressed her dedication to advocating for LGBTQ+ rights during a critical period. She will officially take on her new role in November while continuing to support her current organization during the transition. With over 20 years of experience in health care, housing, and youth services, Parker has previously held leadership roles at Howard Brown Health and Broadway Youth Center. Her selection follows a national search and comes as LGBTQ+ rights face mounting challenges, including recent Supreme Court rulings that weaken protections.

Equality Illinois leaders highlighted Parker's lived experience and organizing background as key assets for navigating the current political landscape. Parker's advocacy work has been recognized with awards, including the Humanitarian Freedom Award from Equality Illinois in 2018. “Together, we will push beyond survival toward thriving,” Parker stated, emphasizing her commitment to the community.
