Lakeviews Kelly Park Still Hasnt Seen Upgrades 6 Years After They Were Promised

Chicago, ILLocal News

Residents in Lakeview are frustrated by the lack of progress on Kelly Park upgrades, despite securing over $1 million in funding six years ago. Brandon Cunningham, president of the Kelly Park Advisory Council, laments that his children have lost interest in the park as delays continue. The council has organized, fundraised, and maintained communication with officials, only to encounter vague updates and shifting timelines from the Park District. Cunningham pointed out that the last major upgrades occurred in 1995 and were not community-driven. A spokesperson for the Park District confirmed that the renovation project is currently out to bid, with construction expected to begin in Fall 2025.

Cunningham's remarks emphasize the community's dedication, which has not translated into visible progress. The advisory council initially formed to advocate for a comprehensive renovation after past upgrades failed to meet community needs. Residents remain hopeful yet skeptical about the Park District's commitment to following through on promises.
