Smash Jibarito Bringing Its Puerto Rican Smashburgers To Humboldt Parks Paseo Boricua

Chicago, ILLocal News

Smash Jibarito, a pop-up restaurant celebrated for its Puerto Rican-inspired smashburgers, is relocating to a permanent space at 2534 W. Division St. in Humboldt Park. Owner Josean Irizarry is renovating the previous Guerrero’s Tacos & Pizza into a boutique, family-friendly eatery with a calming cafe vibe. The menu will include signature offerings like the Estilo Animal and Aye El Amor, featuring fried plantains in place of traditional bread.

Irizarry aims to create a daytime-focused environment, moving away from the nightlife scene that characterized their pop-up events. The new location will also offer sides such as plantain fries and hand-cut chips, with a sidewalk patio planned for summer. Irizarry's efforts are supported by local collaborators, reflecting a community-centric approach. The restaurant's opening is expected in mid-August, pending the approval of retail licenses. Irizarry hopes this venture will serve as a model for his future projects, including a new taco concept to replace Smash Jibarito at Desert Hawk.
