Bocadillo Market Reopens, Aya Pastry Closing And More West Town Restaurant News

Chicago, ILLocal News

Bocadillo Market has reopened in West Town, serving coffee and lunch with plans for a dinner series starting September 5. Chef James Martin aims to grow his restaurant sustainably by sharing space with Gemma Foods, which operates part-time in the same location. The dinner series will feature paella and tapas, with a unique BYOB option allowing customers to bring wine from a neighboring store. Aya Pastry is closing after experiencing ownership changes and legal issues, marking the end of an era for the bakery known for its French-style pastries. Atsumeru, a new tasting menu restaurant, will open in early September at the former Temporis site, offering a 10- to 12-course meal focused on seafood sourced from Scandinavia and Japan.

Reservations for Atsumeru will soon be available on OpenTable, and the restaurant will operate Wednesday-Saturday. The closure of Aya Pastry highlights the challenges faced by local businesses in the current climate. Meanwhile, Bocadillo Market’s strategic space-sharing reflects a trend among restaurateurs seeking sustainable operational models.
